An experienced and qualified fine jewelry appraiser should first and foremost be a Graduate Gemologist. We are graduate gemologists from the prestigious Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Second, the appraiser should be educated and trained in the art of appraising and appraisal writing. We are members of the National Associating of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA).

Why do i need an appraisal?
The most common reason an appraisal report is needed is for insurance purposes. Almost all insurance companies (State Farm, USAA, Jewelers Mutual, Progressive, GEICO, Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, Farmers, AllState, Chubb, Travelers, JIBNA, and AAA to name a few) require an appraisal report to provide insurance coverage as most insurance companies cap between $1,500 to $2,500 under the home owners / renter’s insurance policies. It doesn’t matter if you have $5,000, $20,000, $100,000 or more in jewelry you are not covered without a proper jewelry insurance policy which requires an appraisal report. Think of your vehicle/car - it has its own insurance coverage. Fine jewelry and timepieces require their own insurance coverage too. Don’t become the young man whose fiancee dropped the engagement ring in the ocean when he presented it or the lady whose home got broken into and over $40,000 of jewelry was stolen! Unfortunately, neither one of them had jewelry insurance and both found out the hard way they were out of pocket – TRUE STORIES!
The appraisal report will also help you prove that jewelry is in fact yours as well as help you determine values for estate purposes, divorce settlements or private sales.

How long does an appraisal take?

Depending on the type of report each fine jewelry or timepiece item can be appraised in approximately 30 minutes. Multiple items, complex items and Fair Market Value and Hypothetical reports can take longer. Please keep in mind, if research is required, the report will not be completed and generated during our meeting. We will assess the fine jewelry and/or timepieces and gather the necessary information so you can take the pieces with you. Generally, the report will be completed and shipped to you within 72 business hours. If additional time is required, you will be notified prior to beginning the appraisal process to make sure the time frame works for you.

All fine jewelry and timepieces are appraised while you watch so the piece(s) are always in your presence making the process secure and confidential. You are welcomed to visit our home office or we will travel with our mobile gemological & appraisal equipment (additional fees may apply – please refer to fees information section) to your home, office, attorney’s office, insurance provider’s office or bank. Depending on the type of appraisal report and number of fine jewelry and timepieces that have to be appraised, most appraisals are completed during our meeting. You are welcomed to ask questions during the appraisal process. At the end of our meeting you will have a printed written appraisal report which includes a color photograph for each fine jewelry and/or timepiece.
